Born April 12, 1926, in Clarence, Missouri, to Archie and Nora Carroll, Elaine grew up on a small farm where her love of music began early—singing hymns and playing the trumpet.
A proud graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, with graduate work at UMKC and William Jewell College, Elaine devoted her life to teaching music. For more than 26 years, she inspired students in the Raytown School District, known for her energy, warmth, and her guiding motto: “Let’s have fun while we learn.” She also taught private piano lessons in her home for over 40 years, mentoring generations of young musicians.
Elaine’s contributions reached beyond the classroom — co-writing “Here in Raytown, On the Santa Fe Trail,” which became Raytown’s official song, serving in leadership roles for Missouri’s music and teachers’ associations, and even performing in The Music Man on a European tour.
Known for her humor, kindness, and sparkle, Elaine brought laughter wherever she went — always ready with a joke, a colorful outfit, and a melody on the piano. A devoted mother, teacher, and friend, her life was filled with joy, generosity, and song.
Elaine’s wish was that her memorial be “upbeat.” In her honor, family and friends are invited to celebrate her life in full color and in harmony — just as she lived it: with love, laughter, and music, music, music.
There will be a “Celebration of Elaine’s Life” at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
