
Elsie Mae Lemberger, 92, passed away September 22, 2016 at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. Elsie was born July 10, 1924 the daughter of Charles W. and Essa M. Short. She was briefly married to Jack Staples of Plains, KS who, while serving in the United States Navy, was declared missing in action in 1944. Following his death, Elsie enlisted and served her country in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 repairing airplanes in Pensacola, FL (a real “Rosie the Riveter”). During that time she met John “Jack” Lemberger, who was also a member of the Navy stationed in Pensacola, and they were married in November of 1946. Jack passed away March 12, 1992. Elsie was one of 13 siblings; her sisters Marge, JoAnn, Bertha, Doris, and Delores, and her brother Don survive her. Other survivors include her daughter, Janet McKaig (Tom); her son Randy Lemberger (Ginny); grandchildren Jeff Burch (Heather), Jackie Baker (Matt), and Chris Lemberger (Elise); great-grandchildren Trevor, Liam, and Grace Burch, and Abbey and JT Baker. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 1 pm until service time at 2 pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home.
