Ernest Arvel Mayer, 89, passed away August 20, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, with a visitation Friday, August 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Ernest was born June 7, 1925 to Joseph Albert and Jeannie Mayer in Camden, Missouri.
Ernest was a long time Mason, a proud Veteran serving his country in the Merchant Marines, and a Boy Scout Leader. He retired from Delco as an Operating Engineer. He also loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing with his family. Ernest enjoyed tinkering, inventing, and trading objects with people. He had a wonderful sense of humor.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Betty Jean Mayer and Shirley Mayer, brothers James, Albert, and Wilbur, sister Helen, and step-daughter Pam Wilkinson. He is survived by sons Jerry (Edith) Mayer, Keith (Cindi) Mayer, daughters Sheila (Billy) McCrary, Kristie (Dennis) Gargotto, and stepsons Charlie and Mike Storm. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
