

Mother Ethel L. Carter was born on February 28, 1941 through the union of Homie Feaster and John Wells in Shreveport, LA. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Johnson Temple COGIC under the leadership of Elder Lindsay. She moved to Kansas City, KS in 1969 where she became a member of Y.B. Frazier (27th Street COGIC). She later joined the Evangelist Temple No. 3 COGIC under the leadership of National Supervisor, The Late Dr. Julia Lewis and worked there faithfully in many capacities until death.
Mother Carter worked at the Kansas University Medical Center, Health Midwest-Park Lane hospital, and Baptist Medical Center until her retirement. She was a surrogate mother to many and was loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Baily Brooks, Leon Thomas, and Wilbert Carter; three sisters, Elizabeth Baker, Lella V. Musgrove and L.C. Musgrove; and one special grandson, Jeffery E. Brown Jr. She departed this life on February 22, 2023.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Delores Stewart, Mary L Shannon (Vincent), and Connie Brown (Jeffrey Sr.) all of Kansas City, MO. One special daughter Debbie Willis of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Barry Barber, Marcus Barber (Tomeka), Howard Dixon III (Tyra), Jesse Brown (Deleece), Joseph Brown (Dakie), Victoria Stewart; twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family. She will also be dearly missed by one Godson Emerson Willis III and one special granddaughter, Evelyn Boyce.
A visitation for Ethel will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Evangelist Temple (2315 Benton Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64127). The funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM and will be followed by a procession to the graveside committal at Floral Hills Cemetery (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133).
