Francisca (Frances) Gutierrez Florez Crist of Olathe, Kan., passed February 19, 2017, into the hands of God. Frances was born June 26, 1926, in Jackson County Mo. She was a vibrant and colorful 90 years old. A natural at being a seamstress, she worked in the historic Garment District at the Wilson Athletic Goods Co., where she proudly created uniforms for teams such as the Monarchs and the Globetrotters. She later moved to the warmth of the southern Gulf Coast where she expanded her passion for sewing making Mardi Gras costumes for the Joslyn Company. Frances also loved to dance, travel and was active in her church. Frances is survived by her three children, Richard Florez and wife Corrine of Ocean Springs, Miss.; daughter, Lisa Wheat-Carr and husband Mike Carr of Kansas City, Mo., and Carlos Florez of Overland Park, Kan. She has three granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Florez, Alicia Marie McEachron and Nikki Wheat and great granddaughter, Sophia Florez. Visitation and Rosary will be 5- 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., KCMO. A Catholic Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1310 Westport Road, KCMO.
