FRED L. KING Fred L. King, 94, of Independence, MO, passed away April 30, 2014. Visitation to be held 1PM-2PM on Tuesday, May 6 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, followed by graveside service at 2PM at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Fred was born October 6, 1919 in Independence to Albert C. & Ona R. King. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many years and later as a custodian with the Blue Springs School District. Fred was a longtime member of the Teamsters, the American Legion, and Masonic Lodge 76. He was active with the Community of Christ Church. Fred & Naomi volunteered at Truman Medical Center and were known for helping anyone that they could. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Naomi, as well as his daughters, Fredna Hamernik and Ranae Soptic. He is survived by his daughter Malea Hawkins; 3 grandchildren Jason and Jefferey Hamernik, Brooke Soptic; 4 great-grandchildren Ethan, Alex, Jackson, and Jocelyn.
