Fred is survived by his wife of 44 years, Georgia (Lightner) Mitchell. Fred and Georgia met through a mutual friend. Some could argue who pursued whom, but all would agree that once together, there was no one who could weaken their bond. Fred and Georgia were a team. With their pets, Susy, Fancy and Baby they have lived as a loyal loving family.
Fred, the son of Leo John Mitchell and Frances Mary (Pavlicek) Mitchell, was born on May 25th 1936 in Goff, Kansas. Although Fred moved to the Kansas City area, he maintained strong ties to his childhood roots through his own property in NE Kansas. Fred loved the open land and rolling hills of Nemaha County. He shared his land with hunters, had some land farmed and recently proudly helped provide power with his wind turbines. His parcel has provided work and enjoyment to many.
Another of Fred’s passions was football. He enjoyed rehashing games with his brother-in-law, Dave. Fittingly, Fred spent his final night with Georgia and his dogs, cheering the Chiefs on to victory over the Chargers. Fred celebrated with a bowl of ice cream and passed shortly after. True to form, Fred left us without a lot of fuss, but not without leaving an impression. His family will follow his example by cherishing those held dear, keeping things simple and never forgetting to celebrate all of life’s little victories.
A celebration of Fred’s life will take place on October 16 at 1:00pm at the Mitchell’s Farm, 9310 E. State Route YY, Peculiar, MO.
