Garold was born in Buffalo, New York, to Harold and Lucile McPeak. Following World War II, his family returned to Glen Elder, Kansas, where he grew up on the family farm. From an early age, Garold displayed a strong sense of independence and exceptional work ethic—famously driving himself to school at just 12 years old. He was an active member of 4-H and FFA and graduated from Beloit High School before earning a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Kansas State University.
Garold enjoyed a long and successful professional career, working in engineering and management at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois; Warner & Swasey in Winona, Minnesota; and RO Corporation in Olathe, Kansas. In 1989, Garold and his wife Mary Lou started Precision Manifold Systems, Inc. in Olathe, Kansas. Garold remained actively working at the business until the time of his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucile McPeak.
Garold is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Lou (Pellowski) McPeak; his children Reed (Sylvia) McPeak, Robin (Jeff) Kammerer, and Tyler (Andrea) McPeak; stepchildren Heather (Devin) Beer and Chris Bernatz; his brother Gail (Kathleen) McPeak; and his sister Marilyn Kruse. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren Mitch (Kelli), Nate, Connor, Abbie, Morgan, Paige, Samuel, Chase, Easton, and Amelia, and great-granddaughter, Charlotte.
Garold was a devoted family man who rarely missed a grandchild’s local sporting event and took great joy at being “babysat” when he watched his younger grandchildren. He cherished time spent with family at the lake house, boating on the Lake of the Ozarks and the Mississippi River, playing cards, grilling, and simply enjoying being together. Sharing the lake life with family and friends was truly his greatest joy.
An avid sports fan, Garold proudly supported the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas State Wildcats. He enjoyed golfing, ski trips to Colorado, traveling with Mary Lou to Mexico, Arizona, Europe, and the Caribbean, and had a well-known fondness for Corvettes. Every year, Garold would also make time to travel to Glen Elder with his brother Gail to visit family and friends and spend time on the family farm.
Above all, Garold will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep love of family, steadfast loyalty to friends, and his gift to make time for what mattered most. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
