was born on January 11, 1935.
He passed away peacefully with most of his family
surrounding his bedside. He was ready to go Home and we rejoice that we will see
him again. George leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Sue, son Don (Susie), son David,
daughter Karen (John) and grandchildren, Melissa (Paul), Jeffrey (Sara), Valerie
(Forrest), Stephanie (Mike), Jack, Patrick and Matthew and great grandchildren Melina,
Aliya, Caitlin and Abby.
George was born in Kansas City, MO to Milton Oswald Bollman and Georgia Alice
(Simon) Bollman. He was an only child but had a wonderful relationship to his younger
cousin, Gary, with whom he enjoyed a long friendship. George was a 1953 graduate of
Westport High School where he met his future wife, Sue Lasswell. Sue and George
were married on March 2, 1956. George attended Kansas City Junior College and
worked at Kansas City Power & Light before being drafted into the service of the
United States Army. He served in Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
He was a business man early in his career with family-owned company, J.M Ragle. He
retired early following health problems in 1982 and found his next career serving as the
Treasurer for Peace Lutheran Church. Time spent on Sue and George’s 20 acres in
south Kansas City was a joy and George was probably happiest on his tractor. Either
there or behind the wheel of his motorhome! Because when Sue retired, they hit the
road and traveled the western United States and Florida.
They put down more roots as snow birds in Fort Myers, Florida in 2012 and had many
warm, sunny days sitting in their driveway making friends in Laguna Lakes or eating at
one of their favorite restaurants. In every path God directed him, George collected
friends like they were siblings and the family is grateful for all of these many dear
friendships formed over the years, you know who you are. Recent friendships were
enjoyed at Brookdale-Wornall where both the residents and the staff showed such
kindness as failing health became a challenge. George once again faced these health
challenges with determination and perseverance.
George will be cremated with a Celebration of Life to be held Memorial Day weekend.
If you knew George, you would probably say, “He was such a nice guy.” If you’d like to
do something nice, we suggest a contribution to Peace Lutheran Church, 8420 Blue
Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64138 or The Salvation Army, 500 West 39th Street,
Kansas City, MO 64111 or your favorite charity. Condolences can be left for the family at www.floralhillsfuneralhome.com
The Father/Daughter Dance
There is a delicate dance that takes place between a father and a daughter throughout their
whole lives. When he steps into his sunset years, quietly and subtly their father/daughter roles
begin shifting. The dance begins to change…and the father who used to lead the dance with
his strength and courage and wisdom begins to lean into the daughter…and the one who relied
on the strength of her father to help carry her through all that life brings now says, “I am strong
enough to carry you Daddy”…and the daughter who used to receive the courage now gives
the courage…and the girl who gleaned from the wisdom of her father now says, “This is what
we must do”. And it is the most difficult thing for the father but for the daughter it is the easiest
thing…because the honor of caring for her father is the greatest honor there is.”
