He was born in Independence, Missouri on May 14, 1948 to Virgil and Faye Coffman and grew up alongside his older brother and three sisters. Jerry was a very adventurous boy who loved challenges. A talented mechanic and skilled truck driver, he spent most of his life behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler, though if he had his choice, he would have caught fish for his dinner and lived in the wilderness. At 34, he welcomed his daughter, Jennifer into the world. Later, at 58, he married the love of his life, Mary and gained two more children, Larry and Cathy. Jerry was known for his authenticity, generosity and willingness to extend a helping hand to others. He laughed easily, and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jeanette Marie; his brother, Virgil Arthur Jr; his son, Larry; his daughter, Cathy; his grandson, Tony; his granddaughter, Marcella, and many extended family that he was close to.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Jennifer and her husband Derick and their children Arthur, David, and Alivya; two other grandchildren, Jeff and Crystal and their families; 3 sisters, Sondra, Alice and Grace and their families; a sister-in-love, Judi, and her family; and many other extended family, friends, and neighbors that will dearly miss him.
