

Gladys was born January 26, 1920 in Clifton Hill, Missouri to Clyde and Edith Shives. She graduated from Clifton Hill High School in 1937 where she enjoyed playing center for the girls’ basketball team, and being part of the local stitch and sew group. She lived in Denver, Colorado and Dayton, Ohio with husband, Robert, during his tour in the U.S. Army. She worked at Wolferman’s Brookside Bakery for many years. Gladys loved spending time with her family, baking, flower gardening, playing cards with family and friends, taking summer trips with her family to the Lake of the Ozarks, and watching the K.C. Royals and the Mizzou sports teams. She was a member of Meyer Boulevard Christian Church
She was known for being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 45 years, Robert L. Smith, her three siblings, and son, Robert E. Smith. Survivors include daughters Beverly Haggarty (Michael) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Linda Jasso (Michael) of Sugar Creek, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Donna H. Smith of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; grandchildren Chris Haggarty (Maria), Lisa Haggarty, Scott Haggarty (Andrea), Eric and Andrew Jasso; great-grandchildren A.J. and Connor Haggarty, Annabelle and Luke Ray, and Kendyl and Ella Haggarty.
Services will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
