It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Glenda Ree Cueni, 61, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Glenda passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with two rare illnesses: progressive supranuclear palsy and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 17, at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM. Glenda will be laid to rest at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery.
Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lee Cueni, and her brother, Doug Rogers. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Glen and Bonnie Rogers; her sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Ed Light; her niece Katie Joneslight (Monty) and nephew Corey Light (Tara); her godchildren Aaron Bray, Amy Stafford, and Leah Schlotzhauer; and her great-nieces and nephews: Persephone, Archimedes, Pomona, Aesop, and Myla.
A proud graduate of Lee’s Summit High School (Class of 1981) and the University of Central Missouri, Glenda dedicated her life to special education. She was a devoted and compassionate teacher who specialized in working with severely handicapped students. Her extraordinary patience, insight, and kindness touched the lives of countless children and their families. Glenda had a unique ability to see each child's potential and tailor her care to their individual needs—her students and her work were truly the passion of her life.
Glenda also cherished her time with her late husband Lee and their beloved Yorkies. Together, they enjoyed quiet days on their pontoon boat and the adventure of hunting for treasures at garage sales, thrift shops, and estate sales. Glenda found joy in tending her garden, where she loved nurturing flowers and plants as patiently as she did people. Her family will especially miss her famous potato salad and sweet potato casserole, favorites at every holiday gathering.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CurePSP or Kansas City Hospice.
