Gloria. Glo. Glory. She answered to all these names, as each one captured her unique and colorful style, her welcoming ways towards friends and strangers and her daily embrace of life. She “glowed” bright for nearly 95 years, ascending to heaven peacefully and surrounded by love, on June 23rd, 2024. Having lived a full life that was truly “glorious” for all who met and knew her.
She loved Kansas City. Spent her entire life here. Born to David J. & Faye Williams in their home on Wabash Avenue. She later attended Paseo High School and would eventually settle near the Plaza. She also belonged to Mission Hills Country Club for nearly 70 years. Gloria was a devoted member of the Village Presbyterian Church. And various store owners everywhere knew her, loved her every visit and her vibrant spirit.
Gloria was always hungry for new experiences. She traveled extensively, read voraciously, and practiced yoga long before it was cool. She began taking art classes well into her 60’s, where her passion for color and creativity flourished. Like many, she also suffered losses, but she had a gift for counseling others and turning her loss into healing.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Dudley Pace Jr. and Frank Spurlock, brothers Jim and Stan Williams, sister Shirley and her beloved daughter, Julie.
She is survived by her daughter Debby, daughter Cathy, and son Grant (Lorri); stepdaughters Mary Giordano and Barbara Moffett; grandchildren Beth Weisbeck, Laura Lamos, David Wilkinson, Jill Rush, Sarah Austgen, Jamie Murphy, Zoey Pace, Cara Giordano, Nathan Giordano, Sienna Sky Pace, Airlie Pace; great-grandchildren, Mckenna, Jack, Lauren, Danny, India, Pearl Hawk, Geronimo James, Francesca Rose, Willa, Henley, Svea, Linnea, Liam, Huntyr, Aspen Julliette, and Clay. All of whom when they told her they loved her, she would reply, “I love you more.” And she meant it.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-5 pm on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Mission Hills Country Club, 5400 Mission Drive, Mission Hills, Kansas 66208. All are welcome to come share stories to celebrate our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend.
