He was born on December 7, 1932 in Canyon, Texas. He graduated from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas with a BA degree in Music. He met Doris Brock on a blind date in and were married 4 months later. They have been married 64 years.
He worked for a music store in Wichita Falls and in 1965 moved his family to Prairie Village, KS to work for the Toon Shop selling pianos and organs, later becoming the sole owner before selling it in 2002. Harold served in both the army and marines and fought in the Korean War. He was so proud of his service to his country.
He was actively involved in church and Sunday school at several Southern Baptist churches, most recently at Lenexa Baptist. He loved playing his trumpet in various churches and loved golfing with his many friends and Doris. The love of the sport took them many places including Scotland, Ireland, Canada, and Mexico.
Harold loved the outdoors and time at their farm in Warrensburg, MO fishing and enjoying nature. He dearly loved his family. There were family road trips when the girls were young and later in life Harold took everyone on a cruise for Doris’ 70th birthday. Nothing mattered more than family.
Harold was preceded in death by first wife Kay Lyon; mother of Valerie; father Wayne, mother Veta Belle, and brother Ralph.
Harold is survived by wife Doris, daughter Valerie Enger (Bob), and Ronda Consolver (Dan); grandchildren Jeff Enger (Katie), Kyle Consolver (Alex), Kelsey Carnahan (Jacob); and 5 great grandchildren.
Harold loved collecting pocket knives and always carried several with him. No matter where he went, he’d ask anyone he interacted with if they had a pocketknife and if not he’d give them one. He felt you should never go anywhere without a pocketknife.
The family would like to thank Monarch Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Wayside Waifs of Kansas City.
