The loving couple, Harold and Hazel Couture, Kansas City, who shared 68 years of marriage together, passed away within days of each other at NorthCare Hospice House. Harold was born April 6, 1925 to Mose and Lela Couture in Clyde, KS. Hazel was born April 5, 1926 to Jesse and Adeline Pritchard in New Orleans, LA. Harold died Dec. 26, 2014 and Hazel passed on Dec. 29, 2014.
Mass of Christian Burial for the couple will be Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street, Kansas City. Visitation will take place on Sunday Jan. 4 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, with a Rosary beginning at 4:00. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS.
Harold and Hazel were married Dec. 16, 1946 and lived in Kansas City, KS. In 1955, they moved to the Northland and were members of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In 1980, they became charter members of Holy Family Catholic Church, where they served as Eucharistic Ministers. Hazel was a member of the St. Joseph Women’s group and a long-time member of the NiteTime Needlers Quilt Guild. She loved needlework, sewing, crocheting and quilting. Both enjoyed playing cards, making puzzles and dancing with the Do-Si-Doers Square Dance Club.
Harold retired from Fleming Foods as a member of the Teamsters Union. Hazel worked 26 years for the City of Gladstone.
Harold is preceded in death by his brother, Don. He is survived by a sister-in-law, RuaJo Couture. Hazel is survived by two sisters, Beverly Roddy and Nell Selzer and her brother, Harold (Cecelia) Pritchard. Together they are preceded in death by daughters Elaine Thomas and Cathy Bayliss. They are survived by their children Daniel Couture, Karen (Clarence) Aitken, Cheryl Linard, Calvin Dean Couture and Jonathan (Margaret) Couture; sons-in-law Jim Thomas and Lauren Bayliss; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to NorthCare Hospice House. Arr. McGilley Antioch Chapel.
