

On Easter Sunday, one week ago, Harold celebrated his 88th birthday! He was with all of his sons and their families, and of course his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth. Harold died on Monday, April 16, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, Mo., with burial following in Mt. Moriah South Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Thomas More, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to STM Parents of Scouting or Rockhurst High School.
Harold was born on April 8, 1924, in Montrose, Mo., to Cornelius and Lucy Hake Heiman. He attended St. Mary's Grade School in Montrose, and graduated from Montrose High in 1942. He then served in the US Navy in WWII, as an Aviator Radioman 2nd Class. He served much of his duty in the South Pacific and spoke fondly of his military friends. He graduated from Rockhurst College in 1950, with a BSBA degree. He was Vice-President of R.F. Fisher Electrical and enjoyed many trips to the NECA conventions. In 1950, Harold met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Hessel, and they were married Oct. 13, 1951, at St. James Catholic Church. The Most Reverend Charles F. Buddy, cousin of the bride, officiated. They have been members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church since 1965. Harold became actively involved in the Boy Scouts. He received many Scouting awards, including the St. John the Baptist DeLaSalle award, St. George Emblem, Silver Beaver, and the Bronze Pelican. He was a Sachem in Mic-O-Say, and a Chief in Trailblazers. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 601, and was very active in the Catholic Scouting Committee.
Harold was most proud of his five sons and four grandsons for achieving Eagle Scout. He was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, and in the Honor Guard. He cherished his many wonderful friends, especially Harold (Bo) Hake (Katey), Harold Cole, and Dennis Putthoff (Louise). Harold loved his wife dearly, and loved being a Dad, Pop-Pop, and Great Grand Dad. He loved accounting, Scouting, volunteering and the lake house. A special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Berniece, Rita and Evelyn; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth; sons, William (JoAnn), Terence (Rebby), Gregory (Linda), Kevin (Deb), John (Rebecca), grandchildren, Stephanie (Bruce), Paul (Stephanie), Amy (Oren), Benjamin, Sean, Erin, Ian, Zachary, Jessica, August, Dylan and Rose Marie; great-granddaughter, Kinsley; sister, Beatrice Page; brothers, Ted, Jerome (Sue), Charles (Terry), sister-in-law, Judy.
