

Harold Lee Welton, age 96, passed away on February 12, 2018.
Visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm, with a funeral service following at 2:00pm at the Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Private interment will follow.

Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Jean (Linch) on June 5, 2006 following 62 years of happy and blissful marriage.
Harold was born on December 21, 1921 in Nevada, Missouri, but spent most of his life in the greater Kansas City area. He graduated from Central High School in 1939. Thereafter, he worked at the Montgomery Ward Company before enlisting in 1943 in the Army Air Corps (now the U. S. Air Force). He served honorably during World War II and was assigned to the 57th Army Airways Communications System. Harold served overseas in the African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He was stationed primarily at the Benghazi, Libya Air Force Base located on the Mediterranean Sea and Northern Edge of the Sahara Desert.
Following service, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree, University of Kansas City, and was admitted to the Degree of Master of Social Work, University of Kansas in 1953. Following graduation, Harold worked for 3 years as a caseworker and counselor in the Mental Health Department at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks, Ft Leavenworth, KS, a maximum security prison for military offenders. On October, 1, 1954, he was appointed as a United States Probation-Parole officer in and for the Western District of Missouri. He subsequently was mandatorily retired on May 5, 1978 after 24 years of dedicated and commendable service.
Golf was Harold’s principal avocational interest and he continued playing with his golf buddies at Drumm Farm until age 90. He was a member of the Colonial Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by son, Steve (Kathy) Welton of Lincoln, Nebraska; Karen (Keith) Chancey of Branson, Missouri. Grandsons, Tyler (Amanda), Kelley, and Cameron; Granddaughter, Callie (Erik) Nieder. Great grandchildren, Canon and Lyric Welton.
