

Helen Louise "Ginger" Hodes Heft passed away on March 4th, 2017 the First Saturday of Lent. Ginger was born at home, 52nd & Rockhill Road, to Henry and Helen (Purcell) Hodes on July 7, 1933. She attended St. Teresa’s Academy and Mt. St. Scholastica College in Atchison, KS (now Benedictine College) where she met and kept lifelong friends. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons at St. Elizabeth Grade School and later a very active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She worked at Circulation Service Cookbook Company for many years. Ginger was the Coordinator for Our Lady of Fatima Choir for 25 years. She loved her tap dance and line dance classes and taught line dance classes for over ten years.
She is survived by her husband William J. (Sack) of 60 years, five children William Ralph of St. Louis, Michael Henry, Catherine Ann Cashen (Charley), Timothy Joseph and Barbara Jane Hedgpeth (Steve), ten grandchildren (her “pies”), Adam Heft (Susan), Monica Heft, Becky Doherty (Colin), Lindsey Sommer (Paul), Stephanie Cashen, Jenny Cashen, Abby Beyrau (Jeff), Karli Jones (Josh), Paul Hedgpeth and Kelly Hedgpeth and four great-grandchildren Logan, Ryan, and Emily Sommer, Westin Doherty, and his baby brother due in July. She is also survived by her brother Tom Hodes, two sisters Barbara Culver and Jane LaGue (Ben), and a brother-in-law Leo Rieke, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Mary Jo, a brother Dick Hodes, brother-in-law Jerry Culver and sisters-in-law Margaret Hodes, Barbara Altman Hodes, Helen Rieke and Margaret Heft.
Mom was our everything. As Dad said, “The butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker”. She worked very hard to keep her friends and our extended family in contact with picnics and roster updates until her stroke in 2013.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Christ the King Church, 8510 Wornall, Kansas City Missouri 64114. She would also appreciate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass be offered for the Repose of her Soul.
Please join the family for a visitation from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00pm Wednesday, March 8, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Christ the King, 8510 Wornall, at 1:30pm Thursday, March 9, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
