Helen Hawkins-Walikainen, 103 years old, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, MO. Helen was born in Moundville, MO on October 2, 1918 to Sidney and Pansy (Leroux) Quigley.
She was raised on the family farm and after High School graduation, she attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO for a couple of years taking business courses. She moved to Fordland, MO and started working for the Farmer's Exchange as a bookkeeper. She married George Lee Hawkins of Fordland, MO in July, 1941. They moved to Kansas City, MO to pursue better employment opportunities and later moved in 1951 to Grandview, MO where she lived for 51 years. Lee was employed by Bendix and in 1953, Helen went to work for John Deere, where she worked for 29 years. She became a widow when Lee passed suddenly in 1969. She married Reino Walikainen in 2002 and resided in Raymore, MO, until his death in 2009. In 2014 she moved to Crown Care Center.
Helen was a very kind and gentle person. She had a smile that would fill your heart with joy. She was an exceptional seamstress. Her flowers and yard were always immaculate. She loved animals, fishing, bowling, playing cards, spending time at the lake, and traveled many places in the U.S. and Europe, and was a marvelous cook. She had a long relationship with her faith and her church. She was a very giving and loving person and will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sharon (Hawkins) Roberts (Jim) of Peculiar,MO; her granddaughter, Nancy Hausner (G.T.) of Boise, ID; great granddaughter, Jamie McDonald of Boise, ID; great grandson, Josh Reitz (Andrea) of Vancouver, WA and four great great grandchildren, Connor, Maddie, Owen and Elyse; her niece, Janie vonWolfseck (MO) and nephews Randy Wester (GA), Mark Tracy (CA), and Chuck Tracy (WA). She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney & Pansy Quigley; brother, Kenneth Quigley (Springfield, MO); and husbands, Lee and Reino.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 12:30 pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO with a funeral following at 1 pm. and burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
