Helen lived a life filled with love, laughter, and faith in God, leaving a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Born on February 26.1928 in the small town of LaCrosse, AR to James and Maggie Royles she carried the warmth and simplicity of her early years with her throughout her life.
Her journey took her from LaCrosse, then to Wichita, and eventually to Kansas City, though she often said she never quite felt she fit into city life. Still, she made each place her own through her kindness, humor, and unmistakable spirit.
She experienced profound heartbreak with the loss of her beloved daughter, Nancy, a sorrow she carried with grace and quiet strength.
A woman of remarkable stories, she once catered for President Harry Truman and proudly served as a Harvey Girl during the golden era of Union Station—roles that reflected her work ethic, charm, and unwavering friendliness. She truly never met a stranger. Resourceful and determined, she enjoyed buying and selling houses, always seeing potential where others might not. She loved taking road trips or simply driving around town and hitting a drive thru with her family.
Education held a deep personal meaning for her.It always bothered her that she lacked two credits to graduate high school, so later in life she wrote to her school, completed the necessary coursework, and proudly received her official high school diploma the same year as her daughter Jill —an accomplishment that brought her great pride. She was so excited by this achievement that she continued on and took college credits as well.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Huxley. She leaves behind her cherished family - son, Michael Huxley; daughter, Jill Miller; son-in-law, Jeff Miller; and grandsons, Brandon and Logan Huxley and Jase and Josh Miller.
Her life was unique, rich, and deeply felt. She will be remembered for her big heart, her resilience, and her everlasting spunkiness.
