

Henry “Hank” Fredrick McGowan of Plano, Texas, (formerly of Kansas City, Missouri) has joined his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Betty, in God’s glorious Kingdom. He died August 15, 2015 of natural causes at the age of 98. Henry’s positive energy for life was undeniable.
He was born on the Oklahoma prairie of homesteading parents William Jefferson McGowan and Caroline Fischer McGowan, and raised in Gentry, Arkansas. Growing up in Gentry, Henry truly loved roaming the woods and streams, hunting, fishing and trapping to feed his family. He moved to Kansas City in 1939. While working and attending Business School at night, he met Mary Betty Satterlee and was smitten. They were married in 1943 just before Henry enlisted in the Army. He was an officer in WWII. He completed his college education upon returning from the service, at the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelors and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He retired from Ernst and Young in 1982 and started his own accounting practice which ended in 1997. He relished spending his free time with his family and friends, preferably fishing or golfing and loved helping people. Henry was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Kirk in Kansas City and upon moving to Plano joined Christ United Methodist Church.
Family members preceding Henry in death are his parents, his sister and his brother. Survivors include a daughter Carol McGowan, a son William McGowan and a daughter-in-law Robin McGowan, all residing in Plano. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, on Saturday, September 12 at 11am. Military graveside services will follow. Visitation will be at Mt. Moriah on Friday, September 11 from 6-8 pm for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church (Methodist Men’s Scholarship Fund or CUMC Care Ministry), 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75075.
