Hubert W. Powell, Jr., 93, passed away May 6, 2016. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 12 PM Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Floral Hills Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 12 PM. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to K.C. Hospice. Hubert was born in California, MO and had lived in the K.C. area all of his life. He was an Army veteran of WW II where he earned 3 Bronze Stars. Hubert then went to Lincoln University where he earned his BA degree. In 1957 he married Vivian L. Davis and they were together until her death in 1992. He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 1989. Over the years Hubert held a number of offices in the NALC, Branch 30 including Secretary and Union Steward. In his retirement he loved doing volunteer work for various political campaigns. Hubert was deeply devoted to his family and enjoyed visits from his granddaughter and grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Survivors include three sons, Hubert W. Powell, III, Victor W. Powell and Eric W. Powell and two grandchildren.
