

Isabelle Mary (Winker) Hopfinger, 88, of Kansas City, MO passed away December 1, 2016 at John Knox Village Care Center. Memorial services will be at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, 11801 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO on Monday December 5 with a visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., Mass at 11:00, procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately after Mass and lunch at More Hall after burial at Mt. Olivet.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband Leo Hopfinger and her parents Arthur and Henrietta Winker of Carroll, IA. Leo and Isabelle were married on September 25, 1954 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll Iowa. They spent 44 years together in St. Therese Little Flower, St. Catherine, and St. Matthew parishes, until Leo passed in 1999. She then moved to Mission Lake and joined St. Thomas More. Survivors include son, Mark Hopfinger and his wife Mary of Lee’s Summit, MO, and son, Bernard Hopfinger and his wife Kathy of Kansas City MO. Grandchildren, Theresa Thomas and her husband Josh, Andrew, Erica DaVolt and her husband Justin, Stephanie, Michael, Kimberly Valdivia and her husband Patrick, Sarah Dupin and her husband Richard, Rebecca, Joseph and his wife Ashley of Shenyang, China, Lindsey, and Jacob. Great grandchildren are, Andrew, Henry and Grace Valdivia, Henry and Harper Thomas and Caelan Dupin. Also surviving is Isabelle’s sister Therese Borden of Des Moines, IA and sister in laws JoAnne Hendershot of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jan Winker of Glidden, IA, and Leo’s brother, Art Hopfinger and his wife Dolores of Raytown MO and many nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and sisters preceded Isabelle in death: Thelma, Robert, Loraine, Daryl, Donald, Ruth, Joseph, and Cletus.
Isabelle was born May 14, 1928 in Carroll, IA. Shortly after high school she left Carroll to work at Marillac Social Center in Chicago, IL. In the early 1950s she moved to Kansas City and worked at St. Patrick’s Social Center. After her marriage to Leo she continued with a number of volunteer activities including, work at Ascension Grade School, St. Therese Alter Society, pro-life work at a pregnancy crisis center, work with the mentally ill through Friends of St. Dymphna, work at Seton Center, and eight years on the Jackson County Mental Health Board. She served on the Diocesan Commission for Persons with Disabilities, was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital as a Eucharistic minister and at the gift shop. She was a member of the Serra Club, Ladies of Charity and More Friends and the Pro-life group. Isabelle had a great compassion for unwed mothers and the mentally ill. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Diocesan Ministry with Persons with Disabilities at 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64137, attention Becky Turner.
The family wishes to convey a special thank you to the incredible staff at John Knox Care Center. Their loving attention was a blessing.
