Jim was born February 7, 1937 in Kansas City, MO and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He graduated from Rockhurst High School and then Rockhurst University with a B.S. degree in Education. After teaching two years in Kansas City schools, he spent three years in the U.S. Army. Jim was recommended for the Army Commendation Medal for his service while stationed in post war Korea.
Jim co-owned and operated Balestrere’s Restaurant and Lounge at 101st & State Line with his parents from 1964 to 1977. He was the Executive Chef of Brookridge Country Club from 1978 to 1991.
His hobbies included listening to and collecting musical CDs, attending and collecting movies and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents John F. and Mary F. (Passiglia) Balestrere, many relatives, friends and extended family.
Jim is survived by many cousins, friends and extended family.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 30, 2026 at 9:30am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8510 Wornall Road, Kansas City MO, burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO.
