He was born December 1, 1923 in Overland Park Kansas to Joseph and Pearl Garrett. After living most of his life in Kansas City, Missouri, he moved to Lebanon, Connecticut in 2011 to be close to his daughter and then to South Bristol, Maine in 2020.
He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. After the war he worked at General Motors and later became a professional photographer. The final years of his working career were spent at Inter Collegiate Press Yearbook Company.
His life’s joy was his family, friends, church family and enjoying the outdoors. He was an excellent golfer, loved gardening, exercise classes with his Senior Center friends, and daily walks.
He was a member of the Red Bridge Church of Christ in Kansas City for many years before moving to Connecticut and attending the Storrs Road Church of Christ in Mansfield Center. Jim read his Bible daily and had a deep faith and love for the Lord. He was an example of Christian love, kindness and service to all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Elliott, her husband, Phillip Elliott, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Erline Garrett.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the Gosnell Hospice House, Scarborough, Maine for their loving care.
