

James R. “Jim” Hammond, 83, of Leawood, KS, passed away December 13, 2014. Jim was born December 1, 1931 to Everett A. and Bernice Richardson Hammond at Maryville, MO. The family lived in Ravenwood, MO until 1941 then moved to Kansas City, MO. He attended public schools in Kansas City: Greenwood Grade School, Central High School and K.C. Junior College.
He met the love of his life, Marjorie Cole, in high school and was married in 1951 at Country Club Methodist Church.
After college he was employed by U.S. Supply Co. and went into the Engineering Construction business in 1954. The business was liquidated in 1987 at which time he became associated with Johnson County Bank & Trust Co.
In 1994 they moved to Phoenix, AZ and resided there until 2004 when they returned to KC to be close to family and friends.
Jim was a member and director of Blue Hills Country Club. He was also a director of The Kansas City Club and Johnson Co. Bank. He had a 50-year association with the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2010 and his son Robert C. Hammond. Jim is survived by son John Paul Hammond, grandsons Robert Cole Hammond II and James Blake Hammond.
The Memorial service will be held at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20 with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A Rose Ceremony by the Royal Order of Jesters Presidents Court 54 will follow. Private inurnment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
