James L. (Pee Wee) Kies passed away at the age of 66 on January 29, 2011 after courageous bouts with a number of health issues. Jim was born on September 8, 1944 the fourth of ten children to the now deceased Harry and Dorothy Kies.
Jim was a graduate of Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst University. After college graduation, he served in the United States Air Force Reserve before beginning his business career.
Jim loved meeting people and enjoyed discussing politics. He was a generous person always willing to pick up the tab for his many friends and even those he didn’t know. Jim was an ardent supporter of the United States military. He was a huge Kansas City professional sports fan, supporter of the KC Blues Rugby Club and loved to coach and participate in baseball and softball.
Jim also enjoyed travel to warm weather sites and has many fond memories of his adventures to both Florida and the Southwestern states. He will be missed by all those who knew him particularly his large extended family and many friends. Jim will be especially remembered by his beloved daughter Tiffany Johnson, her husband Mike and their son Jacob-the light of his life.
The family suggests contributions to the Harry B. Kies scholarship fund at Rockhurst University in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at McGilley State Line Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Private Burial.
Thanks to all for their prayers and visits over his final days. We will all miss you Pee Wee.
