

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 21st at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS, 66213 at 1:00 pm. Following the funeral mass, Janet will be interred at the St. Thomas columbarium.
Janet was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 16th, 1933 to Lela Vera (Kimmel) Reid and William Henry Reid. After graduating from Wichita East High School, Janet attended Washburn University in Topeka. At college she met Robert Donald Baker and they were married in 1956. Janet and Bob became parents to Victoria, Bradley and Paul Baker. They lived in Eldorado, KS and later settled in Leawood, KS. Following her marriage to Bob, Janet taught at a Montessori school and completed her Master of Social Work degree from Ottawa University. In 1975, Janet married R. Craig Christie.
Throughout her life, Janet provided unconditional love and support to her family and many friends. She was passionate about psychology and how it could improve one’s self-understanding and relationships. Janet relished in hosting social gatherings at her home for family and friends. She was a lifetime member of PEO. In her later years, Janet tutored children in reading at Kansas City, MO schools.
Janet cultivated beauty and serenity in her life.She artfully designed and cared for gardens at her homes and churches. At one home, she created a “secret garden” for her grandchildren.In their 60’s, Janet and Craig moved to Seattle where the temperate climate allowed for year-round gardening.Summers in Seattle were filled with visits from children and grandchildren. Each week, another family would arrive for trips throughout the Pacific Northwest to places such as the San Juan Islands, Victoria and Whistler to name a few.These memorable trips were brilliantly planned by Janet. In their later years, Janet and Craig would travel to the Southwest each winter to visit family and find some warmth.
Janet was a woman of deep faith and a lifelong Episcopalian. She volunteered her time and talents in many ways. She gave and received much love and care from her small groups at Christ Church and St Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Craig Christie, sister Doris Reid Mullin, brother Thomas Reid, brother-in-law Thomas Mead and granddaughter Katherine (Katie) Kimmel Baker. She is survived by her children Victoria (Jeff) Roper, Brad (Michelle) Baker and Paul (Laura) Baker; step-children Robert (Marci) Christie, David (Mara) Christie, Michael (Ava) Christie, Dan (Lori) Christie and Joe (Rebecca) Christie; grandchildren Jonathan Roper, Megan (Jordan) Sinclair, Andrew (Corinna) Baker, Robert Baker, Zachary (Bryce) Colvard, Josh (Kyla) Christie, Natalie Christie (JayPaul Ramos), JD (Sabaria) Christie, Claire Christie, Camille Christie Hering (Colin Hering), Madison Christie Sperfslage (Reece Sperfslage), Preston Norman (Natasha Diedrich), Taylor (Zac) Etoch, Dylan (Taryn) Christie, Taylor Christie Swoope (Dainan Swoope); great-grandchildren Lillie Roper, Julia Roper, Scarlett Roper, Walker Sinclair, Emma Sinclair, Avery Christie, Bennett Christie, Emlyn Christie, Savannah Christie, Charlotte Christie, Arden Christie, Emila Christie, Sutton Christie, Collins Christie, Knox Norman, Blake Norman; and sister-in-law Jean Mead.
