Janet B. Reid (Jan), of Leawood, KS, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 2 at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, KS. Jan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born August 8, 1929, the daughter of Shirley Welch Brown and David Alexander Brown. Jan went to Southwest High School in Kansas City and became a lifelong devoted University of Missouri Alum and Kappa Alpha Theta Alum always cheering on her Tiger teams. She met Robert Carter Reid, a TWA pilot, through her roommate in L.A. and they have been married almost 58 years. They moved to Kansas City and raised their family. Her Chatham home on Cape Cod created many wonderful family memories. She also enjoyed traveling to different TWA destinations each year. She leaves her family: Her husband Bob; children, Shirley Posladek (Glen) and Robert Carter Reid II (Rita Cain); grandchildren, Lauren Timberlake (Drew), Page Mitchum (Aaron), Sam Posladek (Kassie) and Carter Posladek; and five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Ezra and Lois Timberlake, Elliott and Mercy Mitchum, and her dog, Buttons, who have had the joy of her love. Jan attended Hillcrest Covenant Church and her Friday afternoon Bible Study. Both Jan and her husband Bob were honorary members of the Jamestowne Society. Other special interests included Tomahawk DAR, Daughters of the American Colonists, The Colonial Dames of America, National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century and the Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars. Jan volunteered many years at the Veteran’s Hospital in Leavenworth and served on the VAUS Board. She loved to bake cakes for the special people in her life. She will be missed for her dynamic way of telling family stories, even ones dating back to the Revolutionary War.
