Jean Suzanne Gray, 72, passed away February 21, 2013 at her home in Olathe, Kansas. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. on Thursday, February 28th. Private cremation services will be attended later by family. Jean was born April 11, 1940, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to John Zimmerli, Jr. and Blanche Benson. Jean was a talented artist and leaves a great void in her circle of family and friends. In the early 1970s, Jean was instrumental in steering the Kansas City School Board to comply with their obligation of providing education to all children who were capable of leaning. She also provided support to the formation of a non-profit that developed programs and resources for special education. Her passion, courage, and laughter are profoundly missed. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Will Gray, and brother, John Zimmerli III. Survivors include her sons and their wives, Michael and Alicia Gray of Kansas City, Kansas; Will Jr. and Adriana Gray of Shawnee, Kansas; daughters Susan Gray of Olathe, Kansas and Lara Hedges of Lenexa, Kansas; grandchildren Macy, Kaylee, Michael Jr., Marissa, Will III, Liliana, and Gracie; and family friend Ramona Hernandez.
