On June 10, 1952, Roberta Jean married the love of her life Roy Thompson. Together they started a life that centered on faith, family and friends. They were happily married for 51 years, until Roy’s passing, and raised four children. Jean was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. She enjoyed giving her time to the Lord by teaching and living his word. She taught Sunday school and Girls in Action and was very active in mission groups. Jean also started a handmade card ministry that has touched many lives.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Jean was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She was a cake decorator, seamstress and quilter. She also loved playing card games, crafting, and traveling with her husband and friends to places all over the world. Jean was an avid Kansas City Royals fan. She was a season ticket holder for 18 years and following that never missed a game on the television. She was also a very passionate Kansas Jayhawk fan.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thompson, her parents, Arthur and Agnes Leeper, and her two older brothers, James Leeper and Donald Leeper.
Left to honor and remember Jean are her four children, Gregg (Lori) Thompson, Sue (Jere) Neer, Jill (Bill) Herrman and June (Wendell) Garrett: ten grandchildren, Bruce (Angela) Neer, Carrie (Dan) Rieger, Keith (Tammy) Thompson, Melissa (John) Naatz, Kelly (Brandon) Pugh, Stephanie Helmstetter, Janell (Nick) Mortallaro, Ryan (Sara) Herrman, Mallory Garrett, and Nathan Garrett; twenty-five great-grandchildren that she adored; and many nieces and nephews. Jean loved that her entire family lived in the area as her joy in life was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Jean will be remembered as a sweet, kind, passionate, strong woman that would do nothing short of anything for her family and friends. She will also be remembered as a woman who so faithfully served the Lord. She was an angel on Earth and now heaven has gained the best.
