Jess was born January 29, 1937 to the late Jess Sr. and Julia (France) Mayo in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma.
Since Jess was a Jr., he was affectionately known to his family as “Pee Wee”, with many of his nieces and nephews still referring to him as Uncle Pee Wee today.
Jess was married to his wife Paulene (Lipe) for 67 years. He was the President of the Teamsters Local Union 552 for many years. After retiring from the Teamsters, he went on to work at Royal Meadows golf course for 25 years and volunteered with the Teamsters Retirees.
Jess was an avid golfer and was even able to play several holes over this past year as he was battling cancer. Jess never met a stranger in his life. He was a great friend and always made everyone around him laugh.
Jess will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
Jess was preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, and son-in-law (Tom McKarnin).
Jess is survived by his wife, Paulene (Lipe) of Kansas City, MO, daughter, Kathy McKarnin of Kansas City, MO, sons Ken and Kipp Mayo of Kansas City, MO, granddaughter, Kelli (James) Lawson of Kansas City, MO, grandson Jeff (Melissa) Carroll of Fairfax, VA, 5 great-grandchildren; Jen Peterson, Madi Puhl, Landon Lawson, and Thomas and Alexander Carroll, brother, John Mayo of Ft. Gibson, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Jess will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 2:45 PM to 3:30 PM, at the funeral home. A committal service will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery South at 4:00 PM.
