Jessie Garcia Nieto

Jessie was born July 29, 1921, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Cristobal and Carlota (Hernandez) Garcia.

A lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO, she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Grade School and Manual High School. She worked for Ace Glass/Safelite Glass as a bookkeeper for 30 years.

Jessie was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/Sacred Heart Parish, The Guadalupanas, and La Union Cultural Mexican Feminil. She also was a member of the Board of the Guadalupe Center and made donations to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Jessie married Lalo Nieto on June 1, 1946. They had two children, Patricia and Arthur.

Jessie enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking and being assistant sous chef to her loving sister, Teresa. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and for her 100th Birthday celebration, the team sent her a congratulatory statement. She also received a proclamation in honor of her 100th birthday from the City of Kansas City, MO.

Jessie was everyone’s favorite Tia. Her smile and laughter lit up the room at many family gatherings. She will be missed not only by her family, but also by her community.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Cristobal and Carlota Garcia; her sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Augustine Medina; her brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Susanna Garcia; and her sister, Carlota Garcia.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Nieto and husband Timothy Martella of Pasadena, CA; her son, Arthur Nieto and wife Roberta Sharnak of San Rafael, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and great-grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many cousins.

Visitation for Jessie will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec, 20, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 901 Avenida Cesar E Chavez, Kansas City, MO. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2201 Cleveland Ave., Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine for their Shrine Renovation Project at http:sacredheartguadalupe.org/ Arrangements are by McGilley Midtown Memorial Chapel, 20 W.
