Her childhood homestead was surely loved and stories to this day are told about the two story house on 31st Terrace. JoAnne attended Redemptorist Grade School, Loretta High School and then went to Secretary School for her chosen career.
JoAnne married Allen on November 19, 1955 at Redemptorist Catholic Church which held a special place in her life since her Great Grandfather constructed the spectacular structure in the early 1900’s. She was very proud of being a native Kansas Citian, volunteered countless hours at the Irish Museum, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Ladies of Charity, just to name a few. JoAnne loved parties, entertaining and conversation.
Those who she left behind, who she will be looking after are her children; Sharon Tumberger (Steve), Allen Gassman (Ann) and Mary Claypool (Mark), sister Betty Conway; grandkids, Ann (Steve), Joe (Ashley), Jennifer (Jimmy), Megan, Katie, AJ and Sara; great-grandkids, Addison, Ali, Ben Thomas, June and Hunter.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 6th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO. She will be buried next to Allen at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “The Upper Room” or “Ladies of Charity.”
She will be dearly missed by all. We love you Mom, JoJo, J-Bird, Aunt JoAnne.
