Joanne was born on August 15, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Ray and Mary Gordon. On April 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, Otto Barney Hill. Together they shared 72 wonderful years of marriage and raised four children.
She attended Lillis High School and worked three years as a keypunch operator for the Veterans Administration before the birth of her first child. Joanne then devoted herself to raising her family. Later, following her husband's retirement, she worked part time as a sales associate at Jones/Macy's department store for over 20 years before retiring.
Joanne was an avid bowler who enjoyed participating in tournaments and playing Bunco with her Wednesday bowling group. She was known for her kindness and generosity, often babysitting neighborhood children and supporting her family in countless ways. At her son’s baseball games, she served as a dedicated scorekeeper while her husband coached. Joanne also volunteered weekly with Little Sisters of the Poor, assisting with laundry services. In her free time, she enjoyed trips to the casino with her husband and friends—something she always looked forward to.
Joanne is preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Ann Bomar (Hill).
She is survived by her husband, Otto Hill; her children, Kevin (Ruth) Hill, Patricia Godfrey (Hill), and Kenneth (Ivana) Hill; her son-in-law, Terrance Bomar; her grandchildren, Lindy (Adam) Cox , Brett (Joy) Hill, and Ezekiel Bomar; her great-grandchildren, Adalyn Cox and Ellie Cox; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church in Kansas City, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the Mass at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri. A luncheon will be served at St. Regis following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. Flowers may be sent to St. Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.
Joanne’s legacy of love, strength, and devotion to her family will live on forever.
