

John Roy Bancroft, age 83, passed away at home on April 8, 2013. A Visitation and a Memorial Service will both be held at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. The Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 6-7:30pm. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 11am.
John was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on June 20, 1929, but grew up in Iowa. He received his BSC in Accounting from University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1951. He was in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He then returned to Iowa City and received his J.D. Degree in 1956 and joined the predecessor of the current law firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP where he specialized in business law. He was a Partner in the law firm in 1962 and took early retirement in 1992, and until 1999 taught in the MBA programs of Avila and Baker Universities as well as in the business schools of both Baker and the University of Missouri (Kansas City). He taught Sunday school for 10 years at Country Club Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virgie, and daughter Sara of San Diego, California. In retirement, he and Virgie loved to travel. In their travels, they saw Japan (7 times), Canada (6), Thailand (4), Hong Kong (3), Singapore (3), Mexico (3), New Zealand (2), England (2), Germany (2), Myanmar (Burma) (2), Bahamas Virgin Island, Cayman Islands, China, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Estonia, Latvia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, and Nepal. Their favorite countries were Myanmar and Thailand.
