John Joseph DiDomizio

John Joseph DiDomizio of Gladstone, Missouri passed away on August 27th, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 92 years old. Born in Yonkers, NY to Pasquale and Rita DiDomizio (Chiulli), John was the youngest brother of Anthony and Horace. He had one sister, Maria.

Graduating from Yonkers High School he worked for Lockwood Lumber, and part time at Crowley’s Florist. He was inducted to the Army on April 10th, 1951, where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal for serving in Germany. John also served in the Korean War until he was transferred to the Army Reserve on April 5th, 1953, where he served until February 25th, 1957 at Camp Kilmer in New Jersey.

Throughout his adult years John dabbled in different fields from real estate to trucking until he began driving a car hauler. He worked for Hadley Motor Co taking new Fords to dealerships up and down the west coast in the 70s. In 1981, John left California and moved to Kansas City where he continued hauling new Fords at Auto Convoy which later became Allied Systems and then Jack Cooper. After earning many awards for service and safety from 1981-2015, at the age of 85 and 34 years of service, he finally made his last run and retired. He was a very proud member of the Teamsters Local 41.

John married the love of his life, Judy, in Bakersfield California in 1974. John had 5 children: John, Robert, Thomas, Donald, Diane and Gina. Judy had 3 children: Hubert, William and Stephen. In 1975, they had one child between them, Julie. John and Judy were known for their love of bowling and were very competitive in several leagues; competing nights and weekends. If they were not bowling, you would often find them out dancing at the Blackboard or at the Basque. In their early years John would often be found helping Hugh and Bill at the AG Farm with FFA steers, hogs and chickens. John lived his life to its fullest at every chance. He could walk into a room knowing no one and walk out with lifelong friends. He loved his family, was always willing to help a friend and would give a stranger the shirt off his back.

John is survived by his wife Judy. Daughters Julie (David) McCaw, Gina (Randy) Pickett and Diane (Chris) Miller. Son John DiDomizio and his stepsons Hubert (Carol) Bohannon, William Bohannon and Stephen (Melody) Hill. Brother, Horace (Tina) DiDomizio.

Grandchildren: Breanna, Annalise and John Pinedo & Ross and Alistair McCaw (Julie and David). Randy (Shirley) Pickett Jr. (Gina & Randy). Danny (Briana) Hakker, Ashley (Nicholas Darby) Hakker and Jonathon Hakker (Diane DiDomizio and Chris Miller). Christine (Elijah) Gomez, Stacey DiDomizio, Melissa and Michael DiDomizio (Donald). Robert and Lindsay DiDomizio, Angie Gonzalez (Thomas and Cindy). Dustin Bohannon, Jessica Frisby, ReBecca Bohannon, Travis (Kaitlin) Reynolds, Brandon (Mikki) Bohannon, Brittany (Lucas) Sigman. (William). Jonathan and Jennifer Hill, Robert and Nina Zenger (Stephen)

Jessica Orozco, Hailey Gomez, Madeline Dalton (Donald). Jonathan Bohannon, Sadie Kimmi, Ashton Sigman. Jaxon and Owen Berry. Oliver Bohannon. Joseph, Peter and Meadow Bohannon (William). Dylan, Nick Rockie, Ryker and Taeden Hill. Children of Nina and Robert Zenger (Stephen).

John is also survived by many cousins and extended family.

John is preceded in death by his parents Rita and Pasquale, brother Anthony and sister Maria. His sons Robert, Thomas and Donald. Mother-in-law Willie Evans and Father-in-law Jack Evans. Brother-in-law, Don McKinzie. Nieces, Rita DiDomizio and Donna McKinzie. Nephews, Anthony DiDomizio and RJ Croft. Grandsons Jonathan Bohannon and Jonathan Hill.

John was a friend to many will be missed by everyone that had the privilege to know and love him.

A rosary service and visitation for John will be on Thursday, August 31, 2023; rosary starting at 5pm and visitation from 5:15 to 7 pm at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 Northeast Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 1, 2023 starting at 12 pm at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4737 N Cleveland Ave., Kansas City, MO 64117, followed directly by the committal service with Military Honors at Resurrection Cemetery, 5001 NE Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, MO 64156.
