John passed away peacefully after a battle with Mesothelioma (lung cancer). By the grace of God and through many prayers, John’s desire to make sure his wife Bette of 60 years was taken care of prior to his passing was honored.
John was born on April 27th, 1939 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Raymond and Alvie Struck, who preceded him in death. John was the second of four children. He was preceded in death by his older sister Donna Walsh and younger brother Raymond Struck. His surviving younger sister Pat Struck resides in Alexandria, Minnesota. John is survived by a devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Bette Struck. Bette was at John’s side to comfort him during his illness and was able to be by his side as he passed. Other survivors include one daughter, Rochelle Vossman, granddaughter Brianna Powers and grandson Andrew Powers, one son, John (Julie) Struck, granddaughters Lindsee (Michael) Dial, Savannah (Mitchell) Heller, grandsons Jeremy (Jael) Struck and Jake (Julia) Struck, great grandchildren Grayson, Callie and Holden Heller and Sutton Struck, and multiple nephews, nieces, and cousins.
John graduated from Roosevelt High School (Minneapolis) in 1957 and then joined the Navy where he served for 2 years. After serving in the Navy, John met and later married Bette on November 30, 1963. John and Bette made Minnesota their home, raising 2 children, enjoying successful careers, and making Christ the center of their lives. John retired from the Anoka County Sheriff's office in 1994 after 30 years of service. John began working as a night shift patrol officer, then served as the sergeant of the patrol officers, and finished his career as an investigator in the major crime unit.
Upon retirement, John and Bette moved to Walker, MN where they built their lake home and attended Calvary Church where they served made friends in the community. Their lake home provided a wonderful communal spot for family. They enjoyed hosting and loved the opportunity to enjoy fellowship with family and friends. They also enjoyed traveling the countryside in their motorhome, where they found a winter vacation home in Ft. Myers, Florida and enjoyed 25 years of winter living. In November 2020, after John’s diagnosis with Mesothelioma in 2019, they sold their home in Walker, Minnesota and moved to Leawood, Kansas to be close to family and work on John’s plan to have things taken care of for his beautiful bride Bette. God answered John’s prayers and allowed him almost 5 years of additional time with Bette and family.
John loved the outdoors and always wanted to work on a home project. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially trees. John spent much time cutting, planting, and planning the placement of trees around their properties.
John was a passionate man. When he set out to accomplish something he was all-in. He loved his wife Bette and family with passion. John was a devoted Christian and loved Jesus. He was committed to make Christ the center of his life and the life of his family. He was always active within the church and was a prayer warrior for family and friends. John provided a blueprint for being committed to a Christ centered life, and we will always be grateful for his passion in this area. We thank God for John and know he ran the race of a good and faithful servant.
