Johnny was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 11,1940. As a young boy he went to Military School in Mexico, Missouri. He spent most of his teenage years attending school in Anchorage, Alaska while living with his Dad where he would sneak out at night to go play golf since it was still light outside but the golf courses were closed. He moved back to Kansas City, Missouri and graduated college from University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZZOU). He was very much an avid Mizzou fan!
He retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad Company after 33 years. He started in 1971 and after 1975 he became the General Yard Master working nights which after work somehow his car always made its way to Kelly’s Westport Inn on his way home.
Johnny was a fan of all sports but golf was the love of his life. Everyone that met him wanted to play golf with him in hopes to beat him. He very much enjoyed being with his friends and having lunch.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Edward Ray and Dorothy Osborne, his brother Pat Ray.
Lots of people loved Johnny Ray except for maybe Jayhawk fans. He always lit up a room and never said an unkind word about others, a real gentleman. Johnny will be dearly missed.
