Jonathan (Jon) B. Weis, 46, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2012. Jon was born in Kansas City, MO to Bill and Arden Weis on June 8, 1966. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Weis, his sister, Jennifer, and his niece, Sarah.
Jon was a very happy addition to the family as he was born on his grandmother’s birthday. Jon married Christina Beck in 2001 and she became affectionately referred to as the one who finally “captured his heart”. Christina said it best, “Jon was the best of men and had all the qualities I dreamed of –loyalty, trustworthiness, a great sense of humor, smart, dedicated and kind. He enabled me to follow my dreams; I am a kite and Jon was the anchor that kept me grounded.”
Jon loved movies and was a passionate supporter of local music. Christina loved to watch movies with him just to hear him laugh. That laugh always came from deep within, his whole body would shake and you would almost think that he was crying. He had a knack for seeing what others did not. His approach to life was thoughtful with others in mind.
Jon was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, a graduate of St. Peter’s Grade School, Bishop Meige Class of 1984, and UMKC Class of 1989 with a Degree in History. While at UMKC Jon was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma. Many of his longtime friends were also fraternity brothers. Jon’s professional career seemed to always include the area of financial services, a trait that seemed to have been inherited from his father and shared by his brothers. He was most recently employed at Entertainment Properties Trust where his ability of never meeting a stranger was truly an asset. He managed complex financial and real estate transactions to develop entertainment properties all over the United States. These transactions involved numerous parties, real estate and legal issues. He was an opener and a closer in many business deals, a consummate professional and people loved to work with him.
Jon and Christina welcomed their son, Jonathan, into their family just shy of sharing Jon’s birthday. Jonathan was truly the light and reason for Jon’s life. The love and understanding that Jon had with his young son was a testament to Jon’s generous and caring ways. There were no bounds to what Jon was willing to do for Jonathan and it was apparent to all who saw them together. He was proud of his son and it was a common occurrence to see them on a Saturday having a hotdog at Costco, driving around the neighborhood greeting everyone who was outside, or to see Jon watch Jonathan as he played with his Lego’s. Jon truly was living his life to the fullest with his son. They studied the stars, planets, and the galaxies together. That educational bonding would then lead to the tender moment of seeing father and son taking a nighttime stroll holding hands with glow sticks picking the stars out of the sky.
Jon loved his brothers and his best friend, Mark. If you ever heard their conversations you would have noticed the trust and the bond of friendship that was apparent in Jon’s tone and the ornery twinkle in his eyes. Jon knew every neighbor, every house, pet, and every pocket of his neighborhood. He was genuinely interested in the people he met and their lives. He will be remembered as a father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor. He always had a special connection to animals in need and was a champion for causes that he felt were important for the betterment to the neighborhood he had spent his entire life in, Brookside.
Jon is survived by his wife, Christina, and his son, Jonathan. He is also survived by his mother, Arden, brothers, Jeff (Lisa) and Jason (Andrea), aunt, Sally Sickman , uncle, Mark Sickman (Marilyn) and his nephews, Sam and Spencer.
