Katherine Wood George

Katherine Wood George, 85, of Gladstone, MO passed away July 1, 2012. Funeral services are 10:00 am Friday July 6th at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home, with visitation preceding services 9:00 - 10:00 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Katherine requested memorial contributions to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd., KC,MO, 64137.

Katherine was born October 7, 1926 in Belton, MO. She graduated from Belton High School in 1944 and lived most of her adult life in Clay and Platte counties. Katherine was married on July 1, 1945 to T.J. George. Upon T.J.'s retirement they built their home on rural acreage in Smithville, MO. Together they enjoyed growing and sharing a large vegetable garden. They raised hunting dogs and entered them in many field trials before T.J.'s death in 1999. For several years Katherine took pleasure volunteering for St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary in the sewing room at the Spelman Hospital Campus in Smithville. She also loved to play cards and visit with her friends and neighbors. Katherine's positive and upbeat attitude affected everyone. It created a contagious joyous atmosphere that was evident throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, half brother, and husband T.J. Survivors include her sons, Rick (Valarie) George, Roy (Sharon) George, daughter, Linda McKelvy, 5 grandchildren, Sheri, Travis, Natalie, Tracey, Scott and 10 great grandchildren.
