

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husbands: Robert Jennings, Cornelius Smith, Sr. and Levi Thompson; her two sisters Louise Ray and Shirley Jean Ray; her son Ra El-Aton Amon and grandson: Ta’Ron Smith.
Kathryn graduated from Aggie Agriculture High School in 1949. She was baptized at an early age and ventured to Memphis, Tennessee where she met and married Robert Jennings. To this union two children were born, Betty and Michael Jennings. Upon dissolution of this marriage, Kathryn returned to Mississippi where she met and married Cornelius Smith, Sr. and to this union, four children were born: Thomas, Cornelius, Jr., Kathy and Linda Smith. The family eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1958. After several years, this marriage dissolved. She was later employed as a cook by, Twin Oaks Apartments, where she met and married Levi Thompson, Jr. Her last three children were born, Ralph aka Ra El-Aton Amon, Darrell, Lori Thompson and Chonita Edwards.
Kathryn departed this earthly life on Monday, May 11, 2015, the age of 84 at North Kansas City Hospice in Missouri. She touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with in so many ways. Kathryn (NANA) was truly one of Gods Angels on earth.
Kathryn leaves to mourn 4 sons: Michael Jennings, Sr. (Deborah), Thomas J. Smith (Cassandra-Sondy), Cornelius Smith, Jr. and Darrell Thompson; five daughters: Betty Saunders (Boyd), Kathy Smith, Linda Smith Everette, Lori Thompson and Chonita Edwards; two brothers: James Fox and Calvin Ray, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, The Lewis Family and friends.
Kathryn will be remembered as being a loving and caring Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, & great-great grandmother. And friend to all who came in contact with her.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
