Kay C. Mehrer

Kay is preceded in death by her husband Charles F. “Chuck” Mehrer III, and her parents W.G. and Dorothy Irene Calhoun, her brother Kenneth Calhoun and brother-in-law Bill Wood. She is survived by her son Fred Rowland, daughter Cindy (Eric) Runkle, step sons, Chuck Mehrer IV (Kristi), Joe Mehrer (Sabine), David Mehrer (Terri), Jeff Mehrer, step daughter Kathy Mehrer, 14 Grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren, her sister Carol Wood and sister-in-law Judy Calhoun.

Kay was born October 22, 1940 in Emporia, Kansas. After high school she attend Kansas University and Colorado Women’s College, married and raised her two children in Kansas City. In the late 70’s she met her love Chuck and they married in 1981 until his passing in 2006.

She loved her high school days and stayed close with her group through the years, being a Gamma Phi and even Women of Year for Gamma Phi, her dinner club ladies, her work friends and neighbors. But most of all she loved and adored her family especially the grandchildren.

A devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love that will be felt for generations. Her unwavering commitment to her family made everyone feel included and cherished. She loved deeply and always put others before herself.

Services to honor Kay will be Saturday April 26, 2025 at 11:00 am, Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO. 64131 with the committal of her ashes at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
