Ken was born on January 20, 1964 in Washington, DC; the son of John and Betsey (Dettling) Surmeier. He was raised in Maryland where he graduated from Good Counsel High School in 1982. He went on to attend the University of Maryland in Baltimore where he became the first Department Head of Micro-Computers while still a sophomore. He met the love of his life, Dawn M. Bayliss, in 1985 and was married in 1989 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. They were blessed with two incredible children, Joe Surmeier (1993) and Kathryn Surmeier (1995). In 1996, they relocated to Kansas City where he continued his work with the Small Business Administration. He is a member of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit, MO.
He is survived by his Wife: Dawn, Son: Joe (Fiancee: Deanna) Surmeier, Daughter: Kathryn (Husband: Nick) Brouillette, Grandson: Leo Brouillette, Father: John Surmeier, Sister: Jacqueline Surmeier and his beloved Dog: Nutmeg.
He will be forever missed.
