Lester “Les” Hugh Ryon , 62, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in his home. Private family-only ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 20, 10:00am at McGilley State Line Chapel. Virtual attendance is available through McGilley website.
Les was born June 4, 1958 in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from North KC High School in 1977 and attained his bachelor degree from UCM in 1981. Les retired from Federated Mutual Insurance in 2019 after 33 years. He was a lifelong runner and an active member of the Northland KC Runner’s Club. He was an avid golfer, world-traveler and gardening enthusiast. Les was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was an adored husband, father, Papa, son, brother, and uncle. Les was the life of every party and lived his life to the fullest every single day. He never met a stranger and always made time to listen. His sense of humor and wit in every situation will be missed beyond words. He always said, “everyone has story, you just need to listen”. We can all strive to Live Like Les.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ellen and Frank Sheble, and Lester and Irene Ryon, and his uncles Tommy Sheble and Jim Ryon. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jan Ryon, daughter Jenna Nuss (Todd), granddaughters Natalie and Taylor Nuss, his parents, Hugh and Jo Ann Ryon, two sisters, Kristy Vetter (Mike) and Mary Kaye Cobb (Don), sister-in-law Kim Mentel (Rick), and six nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved dog Mollie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or Harvesters of Kansas City.
