Our beloved Linda Hurst entered the Kingdom of Heaven in the morning hours of September 1, 2025. Five years and 1 month ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, but she never relented, never complained, never burdened others. She continued to live her life, stayed positive, and maintained a desire to live all the way through. She was amazingly tough, smart, resilient, resourceful, graceful, beautiful, and most of all, extremely loved by her family and friends. She was the pillar of our family, loving us without bounds, putting our needs before hers, and providing sage advice when we needed it most. We will miss her terribly, but are so thankful for all of the beautiful moments shared that can never be taken away.
She started at age 17 with Southwestern Bell Telephone, worked her way up to Executive Secretary before retiring after 30 years at the same company. Her passions were her grandchildren who nicknamed her Grandma Ladybug for her love of ladybugs, scrapbooking, stamping, cross-stitch, sewing, and taking time to write hand-written thank-you notes or hand-made birthday cards. She was a loving wife, terrific mother, and wonderful Grandma.
She leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Jerry Hurst, her sons Jeff and Jay Hurst, her daughter-in-laws Janessa and Kelly Hurst, and her first grandchild, Jia Hurst, followed by Hudson, and Hensley Hurst. She is survived by her sister and her husband, Judy and Dennis Tunks, her nephew Tim and wife Lael, and their children Trevor, Ben, and Ryan. Along with countless cousins who she loved dearly. We would be remiss not to mention her Scottish Terrier, Charlie, who was her loyal companion and would spin in circles with excitement each time she would arrive back home.
In true fashion, Linda did not want us to make a fuss over her, and therefore she did not want a public service, and we will respect her wishes. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. If you wish to honor Linda, please do so by donating to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research in her name. https://www.v.org
