Linda Marie LaTona

Linda LaTona, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on May 22, 2025 surrounded by her family. Linda was born on October 12, 1948. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and servant to her community.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Linda attended Visitation Grade School and graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy in 1966. She continued her education at Longview Community College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Linda poured her heart into every role she embraced - preschool teacher, attorney’s assistant, accounts payable specialist at Farm to Market Bread Co., and a beloved seamstress whose handmade Christmas gifts became cherished traditions for her grandchildren.

Linda raised four children and was the proud grandmother of fifteen. For over thirty summers, she traveled with her extended family to Big Lake, building a lifetime of shared memories and traditions. Her devotion to service was evident in all she did. Linda volunteered widely—from helping rebuild lives with the Salvation Army in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, to teaching second graders at St. Peter’s in preparation for their First Communion, lovingly guiding families as they made communion bread together. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter’s Church, faithfully bringing communion to homes every Sunday for over a decade. She read the Gospel, reflected on the homily, and often sweetened the visit with her homemade brownies or cookies.

Linda also served with SASS (Suicide Awareness Survivor Support) and gave her time and talent to Em’s Spotlight, helping design and alter costumes for young dancers. Her deep faith and tireless dedication were recognized when she was honored with the Bishop’s Award.

Linda loved being a part of her “Friday Night Girls,” a close-knit group of friends who gathered every week to play cards, watch movies, and enjoy good food and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Rosie Lechtenberg, and her niece, Emily Silverman. She is survived by her sister Vicki Silverman (Paul); her loving children Maria Murphy (Dan), Vincent LaTona (Rachel), Angela Fry (Jay), and Nick LaTona; and her adoring grandchildren Logan Murphy, Hannah Murphy, Savanna Murphy, Alex Murphy, Elsa Murphy, Nova LaTona, Abby Hawley, Ellie Hawley, Jake Fry, Tori Fry, Taylor Fry, Harper Fry, Alexis Fry, Maxwell Fry, and Allegra LaTona.

Linda lived with grace, joy, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed.

A visitation service will be held at St. Francis Xavier, 1001 E. 52nd St., Kansas City, MO on Thursday, May 29 at 10:00 AM, followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
