Lois was born in Kansas City, KS on November 20, 1922 to David and Irena White. She spent her childhood, along with her older brother David, growing up in the city. She graduated from Wyandotte High SChool in 1940 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She entered Graceland College, Lamoni, IA and completed her freshman year before leaving college to support the war effort. She first worked at the B-25 Bomber plant in Kansas City, KS. This was followed by a move to San Francisco, CA to work for the Eastman-Kodak Co. When the war was over, she returned home to Kansas City, KS. In 1946 she married Charles H Madden, Jr., and together they raised three children, Chuck, David, and Judy. All three children attended Wyandotte High School, as did their parents before them. Lois was active in school PTA and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Other volunteer activities included the American Red Cross, Hope House, and area hospitals.
After all the children were grown and out of the house, Lois went to work for the General Services Administration, at the Bannister Federal Complex, in Kansas City, MO, where she retired, after 10 years of service, to take care of her mom and dad who had health issues.
Lois was active in the Community of Christ Church (Formally RLDS), from early childhood into her later years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as a women's leader, active in summer camps and reunions, and held numerous other positions in service to the Church. Through the years, she attended several area Congregations including Grandview, KS; Prairie Village, KS; Blue Right in Independence, MO; and Raytown, MO. In 1990 she was ordained to the office of Elder in the Church priesthood. This was really a high point in her spiritual life.
Charles and Lois celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1996. They enjoyed many years of traveling together to popular vacation spots throughout the U.S. and Canada. Their favorite destination was Hawaii, a trip they made more than 15 times. After her husband passed away, Lois made her final trip to Hawaii, went on an Alaskan cruise, and visited several countries in Europe. Lois always said that she had a full life and felt blessed.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Madden, Jr. in 2002 and a son, David W. Madden in 1994. She is survived by her oldest son, Charles H. Madden, III and his wife Joan of Leawood, KS and daughter, Judith A. Rothrock of Raytown, MO.
