Margaret “Lucille” Conrad was born on April 10th, 1935 to Wade and Rosetta Conrad in Montgomery County near Coffeyville. Her family grew to nine siblings, Jean, Jane, Helen, Francis, Rebecca, Delbert, Leon, Marshall and Milton, of which Lucille was the fourth. She was raised in Coffeyville. In her youth, she worked on the family track farm (garden). She and her sisters also learned to cook for the family.
Lucille met John Heiser while staying with her sister Jean on a farm near Durham, Kansas. On September 25th 1953, John and Lucille were married. Between 1954 and 1961 they became parents of five children; Robert, Keith, Kathy, Marilyn and Jim.
Early in their union, they lived in the country near Ramona, but moved to Herington around 1960. Lucille worked as a nurse’s aide. She always had a large garden. She assisted John in establishing Heiser Truck Line. Eventually she opened a successful business of her own, Lucille’s Flower Shop.
Over the years, John and Lucille enjoyed their time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. They also enjoyed traveling, visiting every state in the USA. Much of their travels was in their own vehicle pulling a pop-up camper, and eventually a 5th wheel trailer.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband John. She left behind a legacy of five children, eight grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled at 9:30-10:30 am on Saturday July 13th, followed a service at 10:30am at McGilley Antioch Chapel.
