Hope was born August 6, 1946 to Adolph and Lucy Velasquez. She was the second child of 5. Hope was a graduate of North Kansas City High School, class of 1964. She attended Kansas City Junior College and graduated from Southwest Missouri State, SMS, with a degree in education. She went on to teach in the North Kansas City School District for 33 years. After retirement, she became a substitute teacher for 10 years. Hope loved teaching.
Hope was an avid sewer, often making quilts or blankets for her family members or quilt shows. She enjoyed attending many of her nephews and nieces sporting events and dance recitals. Despite her many challenges, she never complained. She always had a smile and hug to give.
Hope is survived by her three brothers, David (Lin) Velasquez, Danny Velasquez, Rick (Helen) Velasquez, nieces and nephews… Victor, Vickie, Erica, Nichole (Darrin), Julie, Tony (Naomi), Mark, Joshua, Bridgette; great nieces and nephews, Carl, Kimberly (Chandler), Kollin, Emily, CJ, Veronica, Gordon, Gabriel; and great-great niece Harper Rose.
Hope is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Lucy, and her sister Dottie.
Visitation is Monday, September 9, from 6:00-8:00 PM, with Rosary prayers at 6:00 PM, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. The Mass of Resurrection is 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 10th, at St. Gabriel Archangel Catholic Church. Entombment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation or St. Gabriel Parish.
